A mobile app focused on reducing food waste in China since 2021
X BAG is a social enterprise committed to solving the problem of food waste. It is a certified B Corp with a mission to facilitate a world without food waste.
About us
X Bag is dedicated to inspiring and nurturing the idea of saving food, with a mission to facilitate a world without food waste.
X BAG connects local businesses and consumers. Businesses place surplus but high-quality food that hasn't been sold that day into the "Magic Bag”, which users can pre-order and then collect. This collaborative effort among businesses, X BAG, and consumers helps rescue food that would otherwise go to waste.
X BAG not only creates business values and social impacts by saving food, but also proactively advocates for a sustainable lifestyle.
Our Story
A letter from the founder of X BAG
My daughter's name is Xiaokui (little sunflower). She likes animals, and one of her favorites is polar bears. She called us Papa Bear and Mama Bear and called herself a little polar bear, so we gave her a new nickname, 'Little Sunflower Bear'.
At 4 years old, she is full of curiosity and love for every detail of nature. When she sees the leaves falling, she picks them up and tries very hard to press them back onto the branch. We are very moved by her pure heart, which is a natural and spontaneous love for the Earth.
Occasionally, when we throw away leftovers at home, she is very unhappy and even cries. Very puzzled, we asked her why she was crying, and explained that it was normal to throw away food that could not be eaten. But she would sob and say, "Every little grain of rice has life. They must be very sad to be thrown away."
We often work late, and every evening when we leave the office, we see a well-known bakery downstairs discarding perfectly good bread and pastries. We are quite shocked by these daily scenes. The staff explained, "it's our company policy to discard what we could not sell in time." This reminds us of our daughter's words: "every little grain of rice has life."
Yes, food should not be treated like this, it deserves to be cherished and respected. We felt we needed to do something, for Xiaokui's wish and for the sake of not letting any grain of food 'feel sad'.
So we set off, X BAG began to take root in Changsha China, and then went to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Chengdu... meeting every of you who cherishes food just like us.
